ERG-A-THON: Athlete Details
ERG-A-THON!! Our largest, simplest and most fun fundraiser!
The Erg-a-thon consists of 2 parts:
Part 1 is an on-line fundraising effort through a fundraising platform called PiggyBackr. Rowers will be sent instructions on how to set up their fundraising pages. They will be assigned to teams with Team Leaders that will assist them as necessary.
The rower sets up his/her page by personalizing a West Potomac Crew page, sends emails with a link to their page to friends and family encouraging them to view the page. People can choose to donate any amount (or not) and pay using a credit card OR write a check. Since rowers are required to raise $150, we encourage them to ask for donations from local businesses. A form letter will be provided this week and the Team Leaders are looking at going out as a group to drop off donation request letters.
Last year was our second year and we raised over $16,000! This beats selling candy bars or wrapping paper any day! Friends and relatives who live far away now have an opportunity to show their support for your rower's passion. This year our team's goal is $20,000 to pay for a new dock.
Part 2 is the actual Erg-a-thon held at the high school cafeteria on Saturday, February 6 from 2pm -4pm (watch for updates). This team building event is lead by the Team Leaders, urging their teams to erg the farthest in a set period of time, with music blaring, team colors flying and inspirational screaming. All in order to show off their peak physical condition and claim bragging rights as they prepare to get on the water!
The Best Part...
The only help your rower should need from parents is the email addresses of friends and family!
