SAFESPORT
USRowing's SafeSport program is designed to assure athlete safety by promoting and enforcing policies and programs that address bullying, hazing, harassment (including sexual harassment), emotional misconduct, physical and sexual misconduct (including child sexual abuse and/or grooming behaviors).
All adults associated with a USRowing club that have regular contact with minors on the team, must complete the SafeSport Training Core Course to be eligible to compete/participate. Athletes must also take this training once they have reached their 18th birthday. This is required to be eligible to be entered into regattas.
Athletes under age 18 may take the SafeSport Training Core Course with a parent’s permission. There are also specific trainings available for parents and athletes who aren’t required to take the Core SafeSport training. The goal of all trainings is to be able to recognize, prevent and report behaviors listed above.
In addition to Safe Sport training, coaches, board members and adult volunteers who have regular contact with minors must have a background check done every two years.
Athletes should report sexual misconduct violations to SafeSport as well as to our club administration, which for us is both West Potomac High School Activities/Administration and the West Potomac Crew Boosters. Behaviors other than sexual misconduct should be investigated and handled by West Potomac High School and the West Potomac Crew Boosters.
